Ambergate is a village on the A6 north of Belper with the junction of the A610 to Nottingham. The race HQ is the Hurt Arms which will open for registration at 11am until 11.40am. The pub has good Sunday lunches available afterwards.
Each race starts at 12 noon and the start of the 1st race is about 800m away whilst the other 2 races start a mile away...so please allow plenty of time.
The date for the final race in 2008 is Sunday 8 June - on the same course as used on Easter Sunday, a newly designed course that seemed to get a very high rating amongst those taking part. 4.88 miles and 710' ascent/descent
The courses are all in Shining Cliff Woods by kind permission of the Forestry Commission and, for the first race, the Grith Volunteers. Parts of the Woods are a Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) and so need to be avoided. The Woods are an ideal place for a family walk, especially during the bluebell season.
All events are all registered with the FRA (Fell Runners Association), an organisation well worth joining for the £10 a year fee, even for their quarterly magazine alone.
The dates for 2009 are Sundays 11 January, 12 April and 7 June

RACE 1 : SUNDAY 6 JANUARY 2008
WHAT SOME OF THE COMPETITORS SAID ABOUT THE EVENT It was my first fell race after running for 15 or so years. I prefer Marathons as opposed to 10Ks as you are up against the distance and the atmosphere is less competitive, I found this to be the same yesterday. I will definitely be back!
I nearly did the short cut too on the second time around, I think the arrow was a yard or two up the path to the left and easy to run past. About 10 or so runners together in front of me missed it, two of us went up top with me leading, but from then on it was quite a lonely place to be. I guess quite a few missed the turn. Not the arrow's fault though, they should have paid more attention! I then noticed that I passed a lot of very slow runners near the end, I believe they had also run short as there was no way they had ran in front of me, there wasn't enough go in them to have done that. Any way, never mind.
I quite enjoyed falling over too. Got a cut lip, chin and leg, but if it was easy, then I wouldn't want to do it again. That certainly is rare in road races, but there's nothing wrong with needing to be hard sometimes!

As always, a thoroughly enjoyable event. I was surprised (not disappointed) to end up 12th. Nevertheless I was well pleased with the improvement I made. As an MV40 I have got my work cut out to catch Dav Connor and Kev Lilley. In 2010 I turn MV50, so if I can keep going I might stand a chance in my age group. (MS)
Well I managed to take a bit of a fall, lost half of my front two teeth and dislocated my little finger. But I'm completely fine thank you. All part of the attraction! Thanks for another brilliant race - I'm sure it wasn't so hard last year! I'll be back for April that's for sure. (AP)

A short note to thank you very much for organising a fantastic event. I got into fell running last autumn and this was my fourth race. It was by far the best, with friendly and efficient organisation, challenging but clearly marked course, superb weather, and a great 'inclusive' atmosphere.
I was pleased with my result. During the first lap, I had serious doubts as to whether I would complete another one, but I unexpectedly found the second lap easier and more enjoyable and managed to move up the field quite a few places. It was brilliant to finish a race feeling strong and fast, rather than suffer my usual finishing-straight stagger!
I'm also really impressed with the speed with which the results are sent. To receive them the evening of the race is outstanding!
