running with david - chevin fell race

The Social Club is just about 100m from the A6 which you leave opposite the Strutt Arms pub on the A6. Milford is north of Duffield and south of Belper. It is difficult to park in the immediate area of the Club so please try to car share and park away from the club - go straight past it and carefully park along the road.

All events are £4 to enter for over 17's, £1.50 for 16 & 17 year olds and FREE for under 16s.

Two races are organised on the Derbyshire Chevin Hill each year

RACE 1: THURSDAY 5 AUGUST 2010 : 7.30pm

The main race is over a 4.54mile course with 797' of climbing. The shorter race, for beginners, under 13's and the not so fit is over 2 miles.

A flat road start is followed by a steep 3 minute (for the slowest runners) ascent on a track up to the Chevin. Then there is a downhill stretch before a gradual climb on a wooded trail to the golf course. After crossing the course, there is another steep ascent (2 minutes for the slowest) back on to the main trail across the Chevin.(At this point, the short race turns right to run downhill to their finish). Easy running across the Chevin before a short descent to the road in Farnah Green where you turn left to climb up the road hill of about 400m after which there is a left turn to take runners up a narrow gully, through the edge of a disused quarry and a descent to turn right to rejoin the Chevin main path to run the length of the Chevin and down a steep tarmac road to the finish.

RACE 2: MONDAY 13 SEPTEMBER 2010 : 6.30pm - my 70th birthday

A flat road start is followed by a steep 3 minute (for the slowest runners) ascent on a track up to the Chevin. Turning right at the top, the course still climbs to a stil on the left through which you go to face a steep descent. After a left turn, you run along a narrow but flat wooden track on to cross a golf course and then down through another wooded section to turn right on to a road for ther steep descent to the finish

A one lap (1.43 mls) race for under under 13's and the not so fit older runners, will be at 6.30pm followed by a 2 lap race for all runners over 13 at 6.45pm (2.87 mliles and 600' Climb and descent)
