Charitable Projects in India
What we are trying to do
I have been visiting Kerala for several years now and have also encouraged family and friends to come along to. In that time, it became obvious that not only was there great poverty but also many children lacked basic educational opportunities.
Although not yet registered, a charity has been created with the name IDEAS (International Development though Education, Art and Sport). We have a UK bank account to which you can send donations on a one off or regular basis. Details of the bank account are on the WHY DON’T YOU HELP page.
Many thanks to all of you who have made, and several of you who continue to make donations, large and small, that have helped so many people in the Kovalam area of Kerala in South India. THANK YOU SO MUCH
We are now able to :
support 31 families with monthly payments for food, school equipment and some basic essentials;
raise the money to provide a new school unform to 500 children (£2.50 per uniform) for the start of the new academic year on 1 June 2010...still require half the money!!!!!
install the first of several fresh water tanks...this one at a Tribal community;
provide tankers of fresh water to rural areas throughout the 3 months of severe drought;
assist with educational visits and equipment at 3 schools;
pay for medical treatment to several severely ill or injured people;
pay for a teacher at each of 2 after school tuition centres;
buy 37 goats to provide fresh milk for poor families - some now have kid goats!!!
buy materials for 6 families to set up their own self supporting businesses;
provide a new computer to a primary school;
provide a school with a UK volunteer for 5 months - both gaining valuable experiences;
If you are feeling kind-hearted, why not make a one-off or a monthly donation and/or organise a simple fund raising event.
Also, a BIG THANK YOU to several running clubs who have made donations from races and events that they have organised amongst whom there are Elmbridge Road Runners, Sutton Runners, Wye Valley Runners, Epsom Oddballs, Mansfield Half Marathon. Also, to the unaffiliated runners in several of the events we promote, part of their unaffilaited fee now sponsoring a family.
