22nd Hilly Clothing Company Derwent Valley Tour : 27 to 30 May 2011

The entry fee is £15 for the Series in advance or £16 on the opening day or £4 per race in advance or £5 on the day. Compare these entry fees with other TOURS that charge around £25, we aim to give great value for money!

FRIDAY 27 MAY 2011: 8pm, 4.40ml ROAD RACE WITH ASCENT OF 239'

LOCATION: www.multimap.com - then type in DE56 4BD

Race HQ - The Bridge Inn, Duffield, just off the A6 five miles north of Derby. The late start is for runners from the south. LIMITED PARKING, TOILETS, BAR but NO CHANGING. Additional CAR PARKING near the church.

This is the easiest of the 4 races. A one mile loop is then follwed by a gentle climb up Duffield Bank before descending to do a very short loop past a fine CAMRA pub, the Holly Bush, to return by the same route as the outward journey. The Bridge Inn serves good quality food until about 9.00pm so no need to miss out on supper.

SATURDAY 28 MAY 2011: 3pm : 4.16m ROAD & TRAIL RACE WITH ASCENT OF 577'

Race HQ - The Square, Wirksworth. This traditional race is a part of the Wirksworth Well Dressing Celebrations. PARKING, TOILETS & CHANGING at Anthony Gell School.

A fast downhill start from the Market Place, and sent off by the local Welldressing Queen (who later presents the awards), is followed by an off road climb of about 800m. Thereafter, all of the course is on the road but the climbing has not yet ended!!! It has once oyu get to the pub at the crossroads. There is a very fast downhill run to the finish back in the town....and right next to another real ale pub.

SUNDAY 29 MAY 2011: 10am : 5.09ml ROAD RACE WITH ASCENT OF 594'

Race HQ - Social Club, Chevin Road, Milford...on the A6 a mile north of Duffield. DIFFICULT PARKING, TOILETS, BAR & LIMITED CHANGING - please try to car share or park away from the Club.

A one lap race with all of the hills in the first 3 miles. Then, there is a steep descent followed by a 500m incline to just past 3 miles and then it is downhill all the way....honestly!!

MONDAY 30 MAY 2011 10am: 4.02ml ROAD RACE WITH ASCENT OF 664'

LOCATION: www.multimap.com - then type in DE4 2EE

Race HQ - Rowsley Village Hall..just off the A6 5 miles north of Matlock & 3 miles south of Bakewell...of pie & pudding fame!! GOOD PARKING on the COUNCIL CAR PARK, TOILETS & CHANGING. Presentation of awards and T shirts at 11.15pm : Please note that we may change the start and finish of the race to the local park...watch this space!!!!

A frying pan type of route - out (or should I say UP) along the handle; then a loop of about 2.5 miles; and then DOWN the handle to the finish.

The first hill is a bu--er and my parentage has been questioned on many occasions at the point where I took the photos below. However, after the 2005 Tour, I had over a dozen e-mails expressing pleasure in the event and particularly the final race with its glorious views.
